The brand new GE low voltage switches available above can not be used with your older, outdated switch plates or mounting brackets - as demonstrated in the photo here.
In this image, both an Old General Electric Switch and a New GE Switch are installed in the original (now discontinued) mounting straps or yokes.
With effort, the replacement GE switch was jammed into the old strap, but since they are thicker (protrude more) than the old switches, the switch plate will not mount flush with the wall. Instead, they will stick out about an 1/8" revealing your cut plaster - which, we're sure, is not the look you're going for.
Save yourself some time and order the new replacement switch plates that are compatible with your new low voltage switches.
