Buy heavy-duty floor outlets with single receptacle socket or double outlet switch plates for floors, mantels and other hard use locations. Find extra thick round or square switch plates in brass or nickel with recessed in-floor socket boxes plus replacement caps that screw into switch plates. Note: Manufacturers won't sell the replacement floor plates separately, so the cheapest alternative if only needing the single round cover plate is to buy the Quickport phone jack with brass switch plate and only use the outlet cover.
If you lose your floor plate, what are your options for replacement? Each brand of floor box assemblies has their own floor plate sizes and screw hole spreads, so measure carefully (from center to center) when you buy a replacement floor outlet cover.

Leviton and Pass & Seymour's floor box covers appear to have identical size openings, but the cap sizes are slightly different.
Because of this, if you put a Leviton brand cap in a Pass & Seymour plate (or vice versa) it won't screw all the way in, but will instead stick up slightly, causing a tripping hazard.
Determine which brand your floor box is prior to ordering a replacement cap, by removing the cover plate. You'll find the brand on the metal strap that's holding the device in place.
